Hamburg, October 2025 - The wait is over: On Saturday, November 1st, Massage Chair World will open its new location near Hamburg and cordially invites all those seeking relaxation and wellness friends to discover the largest selection of premium massage chairs in the north. Proper care and cleaning of your massage chair will give it a long life. When it comes to cleaning, we differentiate between three areas.

The inner trimmings of the massage chair are usually made of artificial or genuine leather. The first rough cleaning is done here with a vacuum cleaner (for small parts, lint). We are happy to recommend other cleaning products in our video below this post.

Plastic often surrounds the outside of the chair, as well as in the calf and foot areas. For these surfaces we recommend a microfiber cloth in conjunction with a glass cleaner. Don’t use alcohol-based cleaners.

The third component is the remote control, or control unit. Please avoid using a microfiber cloth that is too wet.

Which technology is better?

For a human-like, personalized massage, a 3D or 4D massage chair is your best choice.

While a 2D massage chair works on the X and Y axes, 3D runs on the X, Y and Z axes. This massage technology is designed to give you the feeling that a human is massaging you.

The rollers can push further into your back, and you can adjust the intensity of the rollers, from very gentle to deep tissue. 3D massage chairs are great for households with multiple users as everyone can easily find the perfect intensity for their personal preferences.

Air cushion is located in the leg and seat area of the massage chair. They adapt to individual body shapes thanks to their enormous flexibility. A compressor, which is located inside the massage chair and is invisible from the outside, pumps air into the air chambers and uses it to exert pressure on the calves. This creates an application similar to lymphatic drainage. In the seat area, gentle and relaxing wave movements are created by inflating the individual air chambers. The intensity of the air pressure can also be adjusted manually on most devices.

Effect:

Air pressure or air massage can be compared to lymphatic drainage. The blood and other fluids trapped in the legs are gently pushed upwards, supporting the natural blood circulation. Regular use can actively prevent thrombosis.

There are numerous other types of massage in the various models of our massage chairs, which can be described as a combination and extension of those listed.

All of our massage chair brands have a certain number of automatic programs. In these programs, certain, particularly recommended types of massage are arranged in the optimal order and duration.

The integrated automatic switch-off stops a massage process after approx. 15 minutes (recommended massage time). Programs for the neck and shoulder area, the entire back and the lumbar region are some of the possible massage programs. The focus of the massage on the massage chair is determined by selecting a special program. The massage is then mainly, but not exclusively, active in the selected area.

A contraindication is generally a factor (e.g. age, certain previous illnesses, injuries, etc., but also conditions such as pregnancy) that speaks against a certain diagnostic or therapeutic measure (e.g. the administration of a medication). This means that you can no longer take a medication because of a contraindication or, in our case, that you should not use a massage chair.

Contraindications to using a massage chair: examples

You should avoid using a massage chair in the following cases:

• For an infectious skin disease
• For recent fractures, sprains or bruises
• For open, unhealed wounds in the massage area
• In case of acute fever or severe malaise
• Under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medications that impair consciousness
• If you weigh more than 150kg
• If you have a tendency to seizures
• In the event of brain damage or after brain surgery
• Immediately after chemotherapy or radiation therapy

In the following cases, you should consult your doctor before using a massage chair and pay particular attention to your body's reaction to the massage:

• For epilepsy or similar seizure disorders
• For thrombosis and venous diseases
• For moderate to severe scoliosis
• With osteoporosis
• In case of trauma to the spine
• During an acute gout attack
• In case of a high-risk pregnancy
• In autoimmune diseases

In some of the cases mentioned, a massage can be very helpful; in others, some massage options may need to be avoided.

The blood vessels ensure the blood supply, the lymphatic vessels ensure the disposal of tissue water. Both systems complement each other. If the lymphatic system is disturbed, swelling occurs because the tissue water is not drained away sufficiently. Swelling occurs particularly often after injuries and operations, but also in many vascular diseases.

The doctor calls the symptom “edema” or more precisely “lymphedema”. With lymphatic drainage, the physiotherapist stimulates the natural lymph function so that the tissue water is pumped out more effectively. The most important principle of lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage technique. The term “Manual Lymphatic Drainage” (MLD) means simple massage; “Complex physical decongestion therapy” includes further steps.

During the roller massage or stretching massage, the massage rollers of the massage chair run up and down the entire back along the spine. The distance between the rollers and the spine can be individually adjusted. The flexibility of the massage rollers ensures that the rollers do not run directly on the spine, but rather move on a track parallel to it.

Effect:

The roller massage plays a crucial role in the different types of massage. By moving the rollers up and down, the spine is stretched and relieved. Furthermore, the pressure is relieved from the intervertebral discs. Moving the vertebral bodies during extension allows the body's own fluid to flow back into the intervertebral discs and thus restores their shock-absorbing effect.

It has been proven that over 50% of all back problems can be clearly avoided by regularly relieving the pressure on the spine.

Which track is better?

An L-Track is simply an extension of the S-Track and can massage more areas of your body. Massage chairs with an S-Track design are slightly cheaper, but they don't offer as much coverage. If you are looking for a massage chair that will help your lower back, hamstrings, or glutes, consider choosing an L-Track.

During the tapping and loosening massage, the back is tapped from the neck to the tailbone using special movements of the massage mechanism. The movement is intended to mimic loosening through the edges of the hand. The speed of this massage technique can also be adjusted individually. The respective area on the back can also be adjusted according to your own wishes.

Effect:
The muscles and tissue are loosened by the tapping massage. Existing tension in the individual muscle groups can be relieved through the even tapping movements. Tension and other complaints are often caused by nerve endings that are pinched between the individual vertebral bodies.

Loosening in the relevant areas can allow the nerve endings to be exposed again and thus the pain to subside or even disappear completely.

The most important part of a massage chair are the massage rollers. There are three categories: 2D, 3D and 4D.

In 2D the reels move in 2 directions. Once in the dimension up and down. In the second dimension to the right and left, for example for massaging the shoulder area.

The 3D function also includes movement in depth, up to 12 cm. This has two effects: A significantly more intensive massage in the neck and back. This function also allows you to control the depth and thus adjust the massage strength.

Furthermore, when using 4D, you can control the speed, which creates an extremely pleasant massage effect that is based on natural hand massage.

The “Zero Gravity” sitting position, known as the zero gravity position, was developed by the NASA research department for astronauts who are in a state of weightlessness for long periods of time.

The spine is in a neutral position, which reduces pressure on joints, muscles and the lower back area.  Because the zero gravity loungers distribute the body weight in an ideal way, pressure points and muscle tension are reduced.
